Fundraising Terms of Service
Effective July 2025
The United Scarborough Initiative (USI) is a registered not-for-profit organization committed to the empowerment of individuals and families through accessible community programming. The following terms govern all financial contributions made in support of The Scarborough Alliance Centre and related USI initiatives.
1. Contribution Acceptance Policy
USI reserves the right to accept or decline any contribution, gift, or grant at its sole discretion. Contributions will only be accepted if they are consistent with our mission and can be used to support the charitable purposes of our organization, including programs, operations, and facility maintenance at the Scarborough Alliance Centre.
We will not accept donations that:
-
Violate local, provincial, or federal law.
-
Create an undue burden on the organization.
-
Are given with restrictions that are inconsistent with our objectives or values.
-
Pose a potential risk to the financial security of the donor.
2. Use of Funds
All donations are directed toward the ongoing support and development of programs, staff, and infrastructure housed at the Scarborough Alliance Centre. Unless a donor specifically designates a gift for a particular project or purpose, all contributions will be applied where the need is greatest to maximize community impact.
3. Irrevocable Gifts
No irrevocable gift, whether outright or structured (e.g., life-income gifts, trusts, or annuities), will be accepted if, under any reasonable circumstance, it would compromise the financial security or well-being of the donor.
4. Donor Responsibility & Financial Advice
USI does not provide legal, financial, or tax advice. Donors are encouraged to consult their own qualified financial advisors, legal counsel, or tax professionals prior to making a gift—especially for planned, legacy, or large contributions. It is the donor’s responsibility to ensure that the form and amount of their gift aligns with their financial goals and capacity.
5. Transparency and Stewardship
We are committed to transparency and good stewardship. Donors may request information about how their contributions are used, and USI will provide periodic updates and reports as part of our donor engagement and recognition efforts.
6. Donor Privacy
USI respects donor privacy. Personal information collected during the donation process will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and will not be shared with third parties without consent, unless required by law.
